If you can’t edit theme files in WordPress 3.9
Are you still able to edit theme files after the update of your WordPress installation to version 3.9?
Some bloggers may have problems. It’s not possible to do that:
- via WordPress dashboard (Appearance/Editor) – the message “Sorry, that file cannot be edited” is displayed instead of a preview of a first file,
- via ftp – it’s possible to open the file and edit it, but any changes won’t be saved to the server.
“Sorry, that file cannot be edited” means there is a problem with permissions. The reason may be related to the file permissions on the server, but it may be also caused by one of the plugins.
In this particular case, the plugin that stopped file editing after WordPress 3.9 update is WP Editor. If you have it installed, deactivate it, and check out if the issue still exists.
