Creating one picture story – a step-by-step example

One picture stories are extremely easy to create. Just shoot a picture and type your story using TypeDrawing application. This post is to share with you some tips on how to achieve a more advanced look. If you know what you want, it’ll take no more than 20 minutes.

When you have an iPhone 3G the pictures are, to be polite, average. This one was shot at the Spectrum Museum in Berlin. I knew I had to deeply rework it. »»»

Create your own one picture stories

If you own an iPhone and want to share with the world more than just pictures, try this: one picture stories.

They’re extremely easy to create – and fun to do. What you need is one great application from the AppStore – Type Drawing. The app is definitely worth its price – 1,99 USD/1,59 EUR (download link here). The program lets you literally paint with words. The recent update has an enhanced, intuitive interface; a choice of 22 fonts, ability to zoom, eyedropper and many other features.

What’s most important – as a background you can use pictures from your iPhone’s photo library.

How to create one picture story?

1. Pick up a photo.

2. Open it in Type Drawing.

3. Write/paint your text. Do it the way you want, it’s all up to your imagination. A useful tip here is that if you don’t want a text to be painted in a loop just enter several spaces at the end in a text input box.

4. Save picture to photo library.

5. Share with the world. If you use a tag #1picstory it’ll be easier found in the Twitterverse. »»»

One Picture Stories: where to find them

Now you can find One Picture Stories in many sites across the internet as I did a perfectly insane job of autoposting with a help of Mobypicture and Posterous. They are the two services, where I send an original, freshly made story from an iPhone.

With every new picture created I feel better suited to continue the project. It becomes an exceptional skill, which combined with the ownable storytelling idea, is worth sticking to. And beyond all that, it just gives me more and more fun, so you can expect a lot more pictures to come.

Introducing One Picture Stories

linia

One sentence description of #1picstory (originally tweeted here):

A story written within one picture, created on an iPhone from a very first idea to a very first tweet.

I started this new litexperimental project at the beginning of a year. At that time people make resolutions. New Year Resolutions are good, because you can refresh your mind. I needed a refreshment, what’s more I desperately needed an upgrade. But I’m not good in resolutions of any kind. I just knew I had to try something new. This was not enough for a tasty blog post. So I’ve been scrolling through apps at iTunes to get inspired. Yes, if I want to get inspired I just take an iPhone and play with it. After 15 light scrolls and 4 fast ones I’ve found Type Drawing. This awesome app lets you paint with words. This is what I needed.

What? Yes, you’re right. I want to say, that the inspiration didn’t come from a noble philosopher who is dead for 400 years. My imagination was reloaded by a decent 1,59 EUR application which is still available at iTunes AppStore (good) and haven’t been updated for three weeks (bad). »»»

16 amazing things you can’t make from e-books

Look at those beautiful examples of what can be done from a paper book. It’s just amazing… but on the other hand it’s good, that e-books are intangible. You can’t do things like that to them. As a writer I would love my book to be part of a heritage, not a birdhouse.
