Let iOS users download your ePub book to Stanza and Kobo directly from a tweet

This short post should be helpful for every writer who is using Twitter to direct iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to his book published in ePub format.

Wouldn’t you like tweeple to read your book seconds after they discover it on Twitter? Here is a simple trick.

linia

Instead of tweeting a link to a book page, tweet a link to a book file.

linia

So if your book is being show at the directory like this: http://www.feedbooks.com/book/3127

find a link to an ePub file: http://www.feedbooks.com/book/3127.epub

and tweet it – you can use a shortener as well: http://bit.ly/bL3fJC

When the link is opened in Safari, a dialog box appears where the user can choose an e-reading application he wants to read a book with: »»»

Book reading robot from Japan [video]

Ninomiya-kun is a decent robot, which can read books. Let’s hurry up and read as much as possible before Ninomiya-kun kids come and say “hey, you don’t have to read any more”.

Analytics – another reason to self-publish at Feedbooks

I’m a big fan of Feedbooks, both as an author and reader. Analytics, a newly added feature, proves that for a self-publisher this service is a great landing page to bring new readers – and an ever improving way to learn who they are.

There are self-publishing sites which offer statistics of a book (f.e. Smashwords), but this one sets a completely new standard in how much info you can get from the facts accompanying book download.

Five sections collect data by:
:. downloads – number of downloads per day
:. clients – which application or browser a book was accessed from
:. formats -  a list of formats in which a book was downloaded
:. countries – which countries the readers come from
:. favourites – users who favoured a book

Why is it so useful? You can learn many new things about your reader, and adjust the channels where you’re looking for him. And knowing a reader better and better is a core of a self-publisher’s success. »»»

Awesome interactive books at the Chopin Museum

I’m passionately chasing digital books around the world and until yesterday I didn’t know they’re so close – in my home city, Warsaw.

Yesterday we went to a Chopin Museum. It was reopened at the beginning of April after a thorough reconstruction, which made it one of the most high-tech museums in the world.

There are many innovative ideas here to bring famous composer’s life closer to visitors. Interactive books are among most impressive ones.

In a special section of the museum [picture 1] there are desks with book-like screens installed within them [picture 2]. Each book’s pages are made from an impregnated fabric which is both easy to fold and gives a vintage feel. From a projector mounted around a meter above the desk, a picture is being displayed exactly within the shape of a book – it’s the content.

You can interact with a book by pressing buttons, but also by turning pages. The buttons are positioned above the sensors which send a signal to the projector to change a content [picture 3]. Now the beautiful idea of the pages. When you turn them over, the music is changing, due to special codes placed in upper corners of the book [picture 4].

From my perspective the whole idea is a brilliant example of how to bring life to the past and make it attractive to a young generation.

Fantastic ideas of print+digital books [video]

I’ve just posted a brilliantly simple idea of a printed book using 2D codes to bring multimedia content to a reader, but those concept books are far more impressive. They prove that a world where print and digital media meet is full of excitement and inspiration. And that technology is helping us to bring a reading experience to a completely new level.

Such projects are essential to fill the gap between traditional and digital reading.
