Like Bees to Honey – Chapter 20
I’m greatly honoured to host a chapter of the new book by the acclaimed author Caroline Smailes – Like Bees to Honey. The book will be released in 7 days and I can’t wait to it. Just read the chapter below and you’ll feel the same.
What I love about the book’s blog tour is a fantastic idea which corresponds with the book itself – in order to follow the story readers change places, travel, fly. We all need somebody to tell us where to go, we all need directions. And we will never stop. We will fly and follow those who we believe in, wherever they take us: to Malta or London or Warsaw.
Later in this post you’ll find all the information you need to fly to Like Bees to Honey.

The Book
Nina, her son Christopher in tow, flies to Malta for one last visit with her aging parents.
Her previous attempt to see them ended in tears. Disowned for falling pregnant while at university in England, she was not allowed into the house.
This will be her final chance to make her peace with them.
But Malta holds more secrets and surprises than Nina could possibly imagine. What she finds is not the land of her youth, a place full of memories and happiness. Instead she meets dead people. Lots of them.
Malta, it transpires, is a transit lounge for recently deceased spirits and somehow Christopher enables her to see them, speak with them and help them.
And, in return, they help Nina come to terms with her own loss. One so great that she has yet to admit it to herself.
“Haunting, heartfelt and beautiful.”
Chris Cleave, author of The Other Hand/Little Bee
Like Bees to Honey will be released on 27th of May 2010. You can preorder the book at Amazon.co.uk.
The Author
Caroline Smailes appears to make life changing decisions based on passing comments made by Richard and Judy.
Back in 2005, two weeks before she was due to start a PhD in Linguistics, Caroline watched an interview on Richard & Judy where they referred to someone as a ‘nearly woman’. Caroline identified with that label and faced her ‘now or never’ moment. She didn’t want to be someone who talked of ‘nearly’ having done something, she wanted to see if she could write novels and tell stories.
Within that same week, Caroline gave up her funding and her PhD place, enrolled on an MA in Creative Writing and over the next year she wrote In Search of Adam.
Now Caroline and her writer husband have 3 children and live on the Wirral. She can be found online at carolinesmailes.co.uk.
